Misconceptions about mental strength

Image
As I research this topic, I was fascinated by all the misconceptions and myths that were brought forth. The three that suck out to me the most were:   ·       Mental strength and mental health are the same thing. ·       You’re either mentally strong or mentally weak. ·       M entally strong people don't ask for help.   In an article written by Amy Morin , she pointed out these misconceptions and regarded them as silly, noting that believing in these myths can prevent you from developing the mental strength you need to reach your greatest potential. Mental strength and mental health have been closely correlated in my writings throughout this year and it is key to note the similarities and differences between the two. Mental health isn’t something we can control, mental strength is. Factors such as genetics and past life experiences can lead to someone developing a mental health challenge, but this doesn’t mean that person isn’t mentally strong. Everyone can build men

Diving into your support system

Image
In an article published by Highland Springs Specialty Clinic, Dr. Julia Hood Ph.D. explained the importance of a support system and how it can positively benefit your mental health. She noted that a  recent report by the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health suggests that one in six American adults faces mental health problems . Dr. Hood defined a support system as " a network of people that can provide you with practical or emotional support."  Building a support system can help individuals facing mental health issues improve their overall health and reduce stress and anxiety. Social support can come in many forms and can vary in effect from person to person. Healthy distractions, positive influence, and moral upbringing can help assist in the ways to show support to others. These only name a few variables that can influence an individual's support, as many things can alter the change in an individual's backing. The second article I depicted was by Caitlin Ha

Mental Strengths Affect on Achieving Your Goals

Image
Mental strength is an essential aspect of achieving your goals. This can start with having clear-cut and specific goals made to give you a better idea of what you want to achieve. This will allow you to preserve your energy, giving you a better focus on the steps required to get to where you want to go. Staying motivated and applying self-discipline is another essential way in which mental strength can lead you toward the right path of success. Keep reminding yourself of why you want to achieve your goals and what it means to you can help push you to continue moving forward. Even when times are dark, do what you need to do, even when you don't feel like it is what it will take to get to your goals. This is what it means to use your mental strength to achieve your goals. As you divide and conquer moments that challenge you, focusing on the moment will give you the upper hand when times come to test your willingness to stretch and change. Responding positively to any sort of c

Emotions affecting mindset

Image
When you’re faced with a big decision, do you go with your gut feeling, or do you thoroughly think out the right action to take? The emotions you feel have a big role in your decision-making processing, furthermore, have a significant impact on your mindset. Our emotions are interconnected with our thoughts, beliefs, and actions, and can shape how we perceive and interact with the world around us. As emotions dip into our perception, how we interpret meanings in certain events can alter any situation. For example, if you were feeling sad, you may interpret a situation more negatively than if you were feeling happy. As we give in to our emotions, our attention tends to slip, losing focus on the goal that is at hand. It can be challenging to concentrate on tasks and stay present at the moment. This can be a huge contributor to what can distract a person’s mindset. As emotions change our moods, they also alter our behaviors. They can influence an individual to act impulsively, not

Mental Mindset

Image
One's mindset can have a significant impact on their mental strength. Individuals can be present with either a fixed or a growth mindset. People with fixed mindsets believe their qualities, abilities, and intelligence are predetermined and cannot be changed. On the other hand, people with a growth mindset believe that they can improve and develop their qualities and abilities through effort and persistence. People with a growth mindset tend to be more resilient and better equipped to deal with challenges and setbacks. This determines the differences between individuals motivated to be better and those who are content where they are. Positive and negative mindsets also differentiate those in situations that test the mind. Individuals with a positive mindset will focus on the good in situations and are more optimistic about the future. They are likely to see challenges as opportunities for growth and learning. Experience With Mental Adversity

Image
When I recollect mental adversity challenges that I have faced, the most notable and recent confrontation I have experienced is running a marathon. Mental adversity refers to the difficulties and challenges that individuals face in relation to their mental health and well-being. While running a marathon, you learn to run the race in your mind, battling only yourself to get to the finish line. There are a few key tips that I can suggest that will help you in achieving any goal you have set that will battle your inner mind.      Starting with your language and visualization, your inner voice determines how you approach something. What we tell ourselves while walking up to the plate, either boosts or demoralizes your confidence. The sight of success will help pull you towards your goal, telling your body to get that action done in result so your mind can experience the glory. Following that, Setting and following small goals will help you find the positives in hard things. When I ran
